Kuusenhavu kauluslaatassa

Before the occupation of Tampere all those that participated in the battle in the ranks of the White Finnish Army were given orders to attach in their headgear a fir twig.

This was done, so that the troops would be more easily distinguished from the opponents in the confusion of the difficult urban battle. These troops also wore the fir twig in the Great Parade of the whites on 16 May, 1918.

Afterwards the same fir twig motif has been used on the rims of the collar badges of the officers.
